Thousands of children grow up in the Emirates, attend school here, and leave at eighteen unable to hold a conversation in Arabic. Not because they lack the ability, but because school Arabic is graded, examined and taught for marks — and a child who is anxious about marks does not speak.
Arabic Saturdays exist to remove that. There is no test, no grade and no report. There is a native-standard teacher, five other children, and an hour of actually talking.
It is free because we think it should be. Every enrolled child has a seat.

- Greetings, courtesy and the register of respect
- The shop, the taxi, the clinic, the neighbour's door
- School-corridor Arabic — the words that actually get used
- Numbers, prices, directions and time
- Listening: understanding Emirati and Levantine speech
- Cultural context around Ramadan, Eid and National Day

Why it is worth an hour

It helps school Arabic
Children who speak a language before they are examined on it perform better in it. The confidence arrives first; the marks follow.
It is an asset
Arabic is a working advantage across the Gulf. A child who leaves school able to use it carries something their peers do not.
