What changes in Class 9 in 2026-27
Everything in this section comes from CBSE’s Secondary School Curriculum 2026-27, Part 1 unless marked.

Subjects
Regular Online Tuitions covers the five core Class 9 subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English and a second language.
- Languages: English and Hindi are taught as standard, with Hindi as the standard second language. Other Indian languages, such as Tamil, Malayalam or Kannada, are available as a paid add-on, and your advisor will share pricing.
- One subject needs more time? Add Specialised Subjects in that subject for three classes a week.

A Class 9 week
- Monday to Friday, one subject a day, in a slot you choose between 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM Gulf Standard Time (GST). Each subject gets one live class a week, four a month.
- 55-minute live classes of at most six children.
- Every class ends with a live check. The last eight minutes tell the teacher whether the chapter landed.
- Homework you can live with: around twenty minutes after each class, a short video and a quiz.
- You can see it working: live assessment scores, chapter-level reporting and attendance alerts after two missed classes. You can join any class, unannounced.

Is Class 9 a board exam year?
No. In Class 9 the school sets and marks the annual exam: 80 marks in each major subject, plus 20 marks of internal assessment, graded by the school on an absolute scale from A1 to D. The board exam comes in Class 10. CBSE treats Class 9 and 10 as one composite course, so your child should take in Class 9 only the subjects they mean to continue in Class 10.
Does my child have to choose Mathematics Advanced or Science Advanced?
No. Both are optional. Every Class 9 student studies the common Mathematics and Science courses, and may add none, one or both Advanced levels. From 2027-28, each Advanced level is an extra 25-mark, one-hour paper in the Class 10 board exam, made up of higher-order thinking questions, and its marks are not added to the overall total. Your child’s school will tell you how it is offering the two levels.
Can a Class 9 student still choose Standard or Basic Maths?
No. CBSE has discontinued the Standard and Basic scheme from 2026-27, except for students already in Class 10 in 2026-27. A Class 9 student studies one common Mathematics course, with Mathematics Advanced as an optional extra.
Is a third language compulsory for Class 9 from 2026-27?
At a CBSE school, yes. From 2026-27 a third language, called R3, is compulsory in Class 9. For this year’s Class 9, the school assesses R3 and there is no board exam in it, but your child must pass it to receive the Class 10 pass certificate. CBSE schools outside India are fully exempt from making R3 a native Indian language, so ask your school which languages it offers. We teach English and Hindi as standard, and other Indian languages are available as a paid add-on.
Which Class 9 subjects does Regular Online Tuitions cover?
